Honeybees Program

Honeybees Program

Honeybees are for ages 3-4 as an introduction to soccer. Age is based on birth year (i.e. if your child is currently 2 and turning 3 this year you can register them for Honeybees).  Teams will be coed.

Supplies Needed

  • Shin guards with soccer socks worn over the shin guards (ankle guards are recommended - some are sold separate from shin guards).
  • Soccer cleats are recommended but not required.  No toe cleat or metal cleats allowed.
  • Soccer ball, size 3
  • Team shirts and a pair of socks will be provided for games.

NO JEWELRY, INCLUDING EAR PIERCINGS.   Earrings will need to be removed even if recently pierced due to MVEYSA rules.

Practices

Practices will be twice a week lasting approximately 45 minutes to an hour.  Once games start practices are up to the discretion of the coach and days/times may change due to field availability.

Games

The majority of games will be played on Saturday mornings. Games are 4v4 with a size 3 soccer ball and no goalie.

Games are four quarters, with each quarter six minutes long.  There will be a minimum of one minute break between quarters and a minimum of a three minute break at the half.

We recommend not substituting during a quarter unless there is an injury, child emergency, or extremely hot weather.  When substituting, play will stop and will restart with an indirect kick by the team that held possession last.

Out of Bounds balls will be put back in play by an indirect kick-in from the point the ball went out of bounds (no throw-ins).  The exception is when the ball goes out of bounds at the goal line, then the ball will be placed on the goal box line or be a corner kick dependent on which team kicked it out of bounds.  For kick-ins players are required to maintain an eight yard distance from the ball.

No slide tackling.  Offsides is not called at this age level.

All fouls result in an indirect kick.  Fouls that take place within five yards of a goal, the ball should be placed five yards from the goal.

We ask that coaches not allow players to cherry pick or stay back to guard the goal. Defenders can stand in front of the goal to try and block with their feet. As the season progresses if both coaches agree a goalie can be added.

One coach from each team is asked to be a ref during their game. Please only have one coach from each team on the field during game time - this is the one reffing, additional coaches should be on the sideline.

Players should receive relatively equal playing time.

All spectators are asked to be on the opposite side of the field from the teams, at least three feet back from the sidelines.
